David Carter, CPL
David Carter is a native Jacksonian, a graduate of St. Andrew’s Episcopal School and The University of Mississippi, having majored in Managerial Finance. Upon graduation in 1981, Carter began a long association with David Miller, Sr. and his son David W. Miller, learning from the masters, the profession of a Landman. Early in his career, Carter worked oil and gas exploration projects in several counties of Mississippi and also in Arkansas and Alabama.
Soon after David W. Miller incorporated Miller Land Professionals, LLC in 2004, Carter began a 14-year tenure, working primarily in supervisory capacities in that operation with projects in Mississippi and large projects in Pennsylvania, Louisiana and Kansas. Notable during this time was a non-exploration project involving his acquisition of underground storage rights of a large salt dome in south Mississippi. During this era, upon completion of title work and leasing or acquisition of land rights of the various projects, Carter undertook the follow-up work curing title defects, calculating ownership interest for landowners and operators alike and preparation of detailed submittals of documentation of facts pursuant to attorney Title Opinions.
In 2009 Carter earned credentials as a Certified Professional Landman through the American Association of Professional Landmen and in 2012 served a term as the President of the Mississippi Association of Petroleum Landmen.
Carter is married to Kathryn Link Carter, who enjoys a long professional career in Anesthesia. David and Kathryn are the proud parents of Jacquelyn, an accountant, Eli, a Midshipman at the United States Naval Academy and Noah, a Junior at Madison High School.
Carter is a longtime member of Madison Methodist Church, where he serves as an Usher and Greeter. He also serves as a merit badge counselor of Boy Scout Troop 164. His hobbies are Ole Miss Baseball and golfing with his son Noah and buddies in the Bushwood Golf Group.
Bert Green, III, RPL
After completing his degree at Mississippi State University, Bert began his Landman career in 2007. In 2015 he earned his Registered Professional Landman designation through the American Association of Professional Landmen. Bert’s work experience has taken him to locations across the country including New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi providing him with a multitude of experience in mineral lease acquisitions, curative requirements, and mineral and surface title searches. He remains active in both the local and national Landman Associations after serving as Past President, Vice President and Secretary of the Mississippi Association of Petroleum Landmen. Bert also served as a Board Member for the American Association of Professional Landmen representing his home state of Mississippi. Bert and his wife, Amanda, live in Jackson, Mississippi with their two daughters, Presly and Mamie.

Martin Miller, M.B.A.
Martin Miller was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi. He graduated from Jackson Academy and attended the University of Mississippi, where he graduated cum laude with a degree in Managerial Finance in 2009. Martin earned his Masters of Business Administration from Ole Miss in 2011. Soon after, he began his career in the Oil and Gas Land business, following in the footsteps of his father, an Independent Landman, and grandfather, an Independent Geologist.
Over the course of his career, Martin has had the opportunity to work with, and learn from numerous Landmen on Oil and Gas Exploration projects throughout the Southeast. He has worked in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Texas, and New Mexico. Some of his responsibilities included, extensive title research and the subsequent leasing of oil and gas mineral rights, preparing complete abstracts of title, working to cure title defects, and calculating ownership interests for both landowners and clients.
Martin is a member of the American Association of Professional Landmen, as well as, the Mississippi Association of Petroleum Landmen.
Martin is married to Austin Brown Miller, who he met at Ole Miss. They are blessed with two children Julia and Patrick. They make their home in Jackson, Mississippi. They are members of St. Andrews Episcopal Church. Away from work, Martin enjoys following Ole Miss sports and spending time in the outdoors duck hunting.
Jill KINNARD speed
Jill Kinnard Speed joined of Maren Land & Research, LLC in 2025. She is a respected land management executive with over 25 years of experience in the energy and infrastructure sectors. She began her career as a landman in South Louisiana, where she developed her expertise in mineral abstracting, oil and gas leasing, and surface negotiations.
Before joining Maren, Jill served as Senior Vice President of Land, Pipeline & Contract Management at Hy Stor Energy, playing a pivotal role in one of the nation’s first green hydrogen hub developments. Prior to Hy Stor Energy, Jill was a Partner at Pehler & Associates, where she led complex title, acquisition, and project development efforts for oil, gas, pipeline, and storage clients across the United States.
Jill has overseen land strategy and negotiations for large-scale energy projects in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, Wyoming, and Arizona—covering natural gas power generation sites for data centers, hydrogen, solar, wind, carbon capture, natural gas storage, hydrogen gas storage, and intrastate and interstate pipeline developments, both FERC and non-FERC projects.
She has personally directed the acquisition and development of over 100 Bcf of natural gas storage and has worked extensively with agencies such as the BLM, state agencies, state oil & gas boards, and county recorders throughout the country.
Jill is a member of the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL), the Mississippi Association of Petroleum Landmen (MAPL), serving as Vice President of the MAPL in 2025-2026.
She is also a member of the International Right of Way Association (IRWA) and the Mississippi Magnolia Chapter 40 of the International Right of Way Association. Having served as Vice President in 2015-2016, President in 2016-2017 and as a Two Year Director in 2016-2108.
Jill has been a Mississippi resident since 2011, and she is married to Neil Speed, together they have six sons.
Jill brings a grounded, relationship-driven approach to every project. Her leadership at Maren is marked by strategic insight, deep field knowledge, and a passion for mentoring emerging land professionals.
